Housing Development
  Start Corporation acts as the management agent for several properties that are dedicated to providing safe, secure, and affordable housing to people with mental illness, physical disabilities, and/or low-incomes. Applications for housing units can be obtained from Judith LeBoeuf, Housing Director, by calling (985) 879-3967.  Please scroll down for descriptions on each on the properties that we own or manage.

Taddy Village Apartments
 

Taddy Village Apartments, located at 411 Bayou Gardens Blvd. in Houma, is a 24-unit HUD 811 Project that offers safe and affordable housing to people with mental illness who meet low-income requirements. All apartments at Taddy Village are one-bedroom units. Rents are sliding-scale and dependent on the participant's income level. Taddy Village offers a community feeling of support and acceptance in a safe and secure environment.


Larke Village Apartments
 

Larke Village Apartments, located at 186 James Aitkens Street in Houma, is a 13-unit HUD 811 Project that offers safe and affordable housing to people with mental illness who meet low-income requirements. Just like Taddy Village, all apartments at Larke Village are one-bedroom units. Rents are also on a sliding-scale basis and dependent on the participant's income level. The Larke Village design offers duplexes in the nicely landscaped setting of a quiet residential neighborhood.


Magnolia Street Apartments
  Start Corporation owns or manages 16 one bedroom apartment units dedicated to people with low incomes. Several units are designated for people with mental illness.

Section 8 Rentals
 

Start Corporation offers several scattered site three-bedroom houses designated for people on the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. These homes are located in neighborhoods around Houma.


Affordable Housing
  Start Corporation has been designated as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) by the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government. This designation gives Start Corporation the ability to use many methods of funding in its effort to create affordable housing in Terrebonne Parish.Start Corporation is in the process of applying for statewide CHDO status through the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency.
James Atkins subdivision in Houma is a development of Start Corporation that created 13 units of subsidized housing for adults with mental illness and 18 single family homes for persons with low incomes.


Assumption Home Start
  Through a Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) grant from HUD, Start Corporation will expand upon its community building and housing development efforts in Assumption Parish by implementing the following: 1) Development of new infrastructure to include a sewer treatment plant, sewer and water lines, street, curbs, street lights, and fire hydrants; 2) Pre-development for 13 HUD 811 rental units, all to be affordable to very low-income households; 3) Pre-development for 10 Single Family homes, all to be affordable to very low-income households; 4) Provision of supportive services to residents of the single family homes and HUD 811 units at Start's Assumption Parish Satellite Office and through other area service providers. This program is unique as it will be linking safe and affordable housing and social services in a rural area. This project will also utilize "green" building techniques to aid in energy efficiency.

New Start for Veterans
  Start Corporation is in the pre-construction phase for a new 12-unit complex that will be used to house homeless veterans. In addition to providing transitional housing, participants will have case management and support services needed to help them establish physical and mental health care and permanent independent living situations. This program was funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, and the Louisiana Housing Trust Fund. Once construction is complete, services will be funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Shelter + Care
  Start Corporation, on behalf of the Region III Homeless Coalition, will act as administrator for the 39 Shelter + Care vouchers available in our area to homeless individuals and families. Vouchers will assist with rental payments to help these individuals and families achieve permanent housing situations. Vouchers are expected to be available by June 2009.
